Lynn’s Suggested Reading

I hate reading. There, I said it.

I can lose interest in a book very quickly and start thinking about all the things I should be doing instead of reading. So the book has got to be great.

That being said, these are great books. I learned so much from the following books. Each gave me several “ah-ha” moments where I would yell out while reading “Oh, my God I get it!!!”

Each book says the same thing — just differently. Find the one that says something to you — and I guarantee, you will learn something that will help you change your life.

A Course in Miracles
A Course In Miracles

Helen Schulman & William Thetford

This is the book I have been taught from. The first time I read it I thought they weren’t speaking English. The second time I read it I kinda got a whiff of what they were talking about. The third time I read it I got a few nuggets of gold.

Each time you read parts of it (I read it in chunks so my brain wouldn’t explode) you’ll understand it more. The authors claim it is the foundation for inner peace, and honestly, it is.

At it’s core it teaches there are only two things in this world; love and fear. Love is love, and fear is anger, worry, judgement, resentment, even sadness. This book forces your brain to consider thinking differently — it’s your lifelong reference book.

If you read it the first time and get it, you’re Ghandi. For the rest of us, it will take 50 years.

Refer to it often. It’s beyond incredible.

The Untethered Soul
The Untethered Soul

Michael A. Singer

I absolutely love, love, love this book because it’s EASY to read!!

It takes what A Course In Miracles (above) teaches and waters it down.

Singer gives so many clear examples, you’ll see yourself in everything he writes about. He gives almost a step-by-step recipe of how to change your negative (many times unconscious) thinking— freeing your soul from the chains of all that ick.

You can read this in two days.

The Four Agreements
The Four Agreements

Don Miguel Ruiz

If you’re going to read any book, read this.

It’s like your social security card; you’ll keep it forever, refer to it often, and sometimes forget what it says and go back and learn it again. It’s the key to peace and ultimately happiness in life.

It’s a small little book, and the title sounds so simple, but it’s not simple. It is a formula for peace.

If you love audio like I do, download the audio book. The narrator Peter Coyote is so good, you feel like your watching an award winning movie. By the way… it should be a movie!

The Power of Now
The Power of Now

Eckhart Tolle

Yes, it’s a little heavy.

Actually, for first-timers to the “getting-in-touch-with-your-feelings world” — it’s a little much.

But it’s like the first time you took Spanish class, or the first time you learned how to ski. It’s hard to get in the beginning because it’s a new way of thinking — then a quarter the way through the book you’ll have an epiphany and say “Oh, my gosh I need to start doing this yesterday!”

A New Earth, Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose
A New Earth, Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose

Eckhart Tolle

I swear Eckhart Tolle is not human. Well, he’s human yes, but he’s much closer to the spirit world than most of us.

After you make it through The Power of Now (yes, an entire book on being present… it takes a whole book) — this is the afterparty. It’s nothing short of amazing. And now that you understand Eckhart Talk — you’ll understand this book.

Oprah loves him. ‘Nuff said.

The Healing Code
The Healing Code

Alexander Loyd

My guru suggested this book. It’s based on healing past scars or pain through a routine that re-trains the brain.

I haven’t done this practice religiously because honestly, I’m just starting to exercise religiously, so I look forward to the day I commit to this.

But friends of mine who have read this book and do the exercises, swear it heals them.

The 5 Love Languages of Teenagers
The 5 Love Languages of Teenagers

Gary Chapman

This book was recently suggested to me by my business coach.

Initially I thought “I’ve read all the books I need”, but this book truly helps you understand yourself and each other.

It’s a very, very easy to read book. And if you have teenagers or preteens and you’re having a hard time reaching them or understanding them — this is your recipe book!

Bottom line; we all love differently. We all speak a different love language. Meaning, we all speak a different language that means “I love you” or, “You love me.” It’s simple and quick. Read it.

Heal Your Body
Heal Your Body

Louise L. Hay

I know, I know… it may seem a little strange to think there are MENTAL causes to our PHYSICAL illnesses. But after reading this book — it makes total sense.

Yes, our brains our the most powerful organs in our bodies. And through trauma (there are many times of trauma), we cause our bodies to become ill through our unconscious thought patterns.

But fear not! We can reverse them with new thought patterns! I love this author (she’s great on audio book, too) because she reminds me I am not a victim. I have complete control over my health and more importantly, I have complete control over how I react and handle my health.

It’s another reference book. Love it!

The Success Principles
The Success Principles

Jack Canfield

Jack Canfield is no longer with us, but he is in a way still with us. He was a modern day guru. A mentor recommended this particular book (he’s written so many more) — and when I first browsed this book I was immediately inspired to be the best me possible.

Canfield is not only your cheerleader — but he’s your professional chef, too. He provides an exact recipe to success; whatever you think that is. And he reminds you to get off your ass and do WHAT YOU WANT!!!
